Private Lessons Policy

All tuition is billed monthly via Stripe. Enrollment requires auto-pay. Monthly tuition reserves your recurring weekly time slot — it is not a per-lesson charge.
Location
Lessons are offered in person at my home studio or via Zoom — both are fully supported formats. On occasion, a scheduled in-person lesson may shift to Zoom if I am away for a show or tour. Zoom lessons are full lessons and are not eligible for makeups or prorates. I do not offer in-home lessons; exceptions may be considered for an additional fee.
Lesson Structure
Students are enrolled in a recurring weekly time slot. Tuition reserves that slot for the student — not individual lessons. This studio operates on an approximately 47-week teaching year. Certain holidays may reduce the total lesson count in a given month; this is factored into the monthly rate.
Scheduled Time Off
The following weeks are built into the teaching year as scheduled time off. No lessons are held and no makeups are owed during these periods.
- Winter Break: 2 weeks (covering Christmas and New Year’s)
- Spring Break: 1 week Summer: 2 weeks (beginning and end of summer)
Holidays
No lessons are held on the following holidays:
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day (July 4th)
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- The day after Thanksgiving
These days do not constitute a cancellation by either party and are not eligible for makeups or prorates. All other holidays (including but not limited to MLK Day and Presidents Day) are regular lesson days. Student absences on those days are subject to the standard cancellation policy below.
Cancellations & Attendance
Notice required: A minimum of 24 hours notice is required to reschedule a lesson. Late cancellations and no-shows are forfeited.
Late arrivals: Students who are running late are asked to communicate ahead of time. Lessons will still be held but will end at the regularly scheduled time regardless of arrival time.
No contact policy: If I have not heard from a student within 15 minutes of their scheduled lesson time, the lesson will be considered canceled and forfeited.
Makeup lessons: Makeup lessons are not guaranteed. When offered, they must be used within 4 weeks. Unused makeups expire after this window.
Teacher Cancellations
If I need to cancel a lesson, I will make every effort to reschedule within the same week or offer a designated makeup slot. If a makeup cannot be arranged within 30 days, the value of the missed lesson will be prorated toward the following month’s tuition.
Instruments
Students are required to have their own instrument at home for practice. Guidance on beginner instruments is available upon request.
Payment
Tuition is charged monthly via Stripe auto-pay. In the event of a failed payment, I will follow up the next business day. If the balance is not resolved within 5 business days, the student’s time slot may be released.
Discontinuing Lessons
Students wishing to discontinue lessons are required to provide 30 days notice. Notice may be submitted via email or communicated in person at a scheduled lesson.
